ABOUT US

More Than 30 Years of Tank Wash Excellence

Dale Fancher, Jr. was working in the tank wash industry when two loyal customers noticed his work ethic and dedication to providing quality, customer-focused service.  They suggested he open his own business and in 1988, with their commitment in place, Dale opened Calumet Tank and Equipment Company at its current location.

Originally, the company offered both tank wash and tractor-trailer repair. CTE operated two repair bays, one tank wash bay and an outdoor steam bay.  As the business grew, they enclosed their exterior bay for more capacity and added another tank wash bay in 1997, bringing their total to three.

In 2001, Calumet began repairing ISOs with the help of a small fleet of trucks. They built a new office facility at the current location and a fourth tank wash bay. They also seized the opportunity to purchase some available, adjacent land and launch a container depot called Calumet Container.

Moving Forward

In 2008, CTE decided to concentrate solely on the tank wash business. Calumet Container assumed all transport and repair services, while CTE looked towards expansion. In 2012, they built a new boiler room and installed a new 300 hp steam boiler to double their steaming capacity. Most recently, the company installed a new wastewater treatment system to remain compliant with the City of Chicago and the ever-changing environmental regulations. The new, more cost-efficient system allows CTE to treat a larger volume of water.

CTE’s spotless reputation for quality tank wash and heating has made it a familiar stop for tanks passing through Chicago for over 30 years and counting.  Dale Jr.’s fine example for providing timely, customer service is still in place under the leadership of his son, Dale Fancher III, as well as the whole Calumet team.
